about us:
scene sickness is an online blog run by one 21-year-old girl, a self proclaimed “scene-sick, punk freak” from chicago, illinois named waverly cayo.
social media: @scenesickwaves, @wavecayo, @bywavecayo
waverly cayo has been a writer for almost 5 years now, starting in sports reporting for her alma mater, loyola university chicago, then becoming the sports editor of their newspaper ‘the phoenix.’ after that, she joined the college radio station ‘wluw’ on 88.7fm with her show “angel on airwaves” – a music show that started her career in the music industry as a writer and contributor.
after writing for and being on air at 88.7fm for a year, at the start of her senior year, she decided to part ways with the station after desiring more creative freedom. she then became a writer for ‘punk dumpster’ – a local, midwest punk magazine and publication that recruited her to write in her first print-published piece in the music world: “a love letter to the shitty basements of the chicago punk scene.”
after a successful start, she was recruited to the infamous national publication dying scene, an online punk blog where she broke through as a writer and started to make a name for herself in the community. after being recruited at the beginning of 2026, she found solace in both the local and national dying scene collective: one that allowed her to find fellow writers, photographers, and contributors all around leading to great stories, sentimental friendships, and a new horizon for her.
in june of 2026, she founded the official ‘scene sickness’ blog: a name that plays off of her nickname, waves, and her love for both the music scene, and more specifically, the punk scene. waverly is a writer of all genres but especially loves to pay homage to the wickedly considerate yet beautifully gutsy community of the punk, emo, alternative, and rock scene – as this is where she first found home.
